Ideas for selecting projects in v0.8
Modified By smoss on 10/1/2008 11:10:51 AM)

Davin has asked for ideas on how the project selection should work.

Here is my two cents worth:

I think you should select a project and work (on that project) using the tabs. The drop down list is ok-ish but here is an improvement.

Make the drop down list a panel (like the RSS drop down). This panel has elements which look like the expandable project blocks on the Home page. (Project name, Project summary, Change Log, Road Map, New Issue etc, perhaps even issues counts too)

That way you can get to a tab and a project in one click (anywhere in the system).

This new drop down list will probably be best in the header area above the tabs.

What do you think?

Re: Ideas for selecting projects in v0.8

The Drop Things Framework (http://www.codeplex.com/dropthings) provides the perfect foundation for your idea. Each component of a project becomes a widget. When you create a new project, it is populated from the default widgets table. If you haven't tried Dropthings.... try it, either way it provides EXACTLY what you are looking for plus oh-so much more... I just wish it had the ability to upload and manage modules like DNN... Widgets are essentially simple modules but I imagine all the functionality of a DNN module could be incorporated into a widget, and all the functionality you wish to express can be incorporated into widgets.

You can see a demo of the basic solution here: www.dropthings.com/ keep in mind that the default widgets can either be retained or augmented with Bugnet specific widgets...
